On the 7th and the 8th of May, 2021 within the framework of the cross-border project «Personalized prevention tools in obesity and diabetes – a joint Romanian-Ukrainian Programme of health education (PrePOD)», (nr. ENI CBC 2SOFT/4.1/56, implemented within the Joint Operational Programme Romania-Ukraine 2014-2020 and financed by the European Union) a seminar dedicated to obesity and diabetes prevention methods for primary health care providers of Ivano-Frankivsk region was held. https://youtu.be/DnfbQK3WZi8

The event took place at the «Reikartz Park Hotel Ivano-Frankivsk» online and offline in compliance with current anti-epidemic measures.

Twenty-five pre-selected health care providers from a number of target areas of the Ivano-Frankivsk region, defined by the project had an opportunity to participate in two one-day offline training sessions. Partners from the Romanian team, Romanian and Ukrainian clinicians, and others who were interested in the event were able to join the training sessions online.

During two days, a total of 144 people attended the event online and offline, including 106 health providers from Ukraine and Romania.

The training program was intense and very interesting. It included a series of discussion lectures and an exchange of experience. Participants had an opportunity to ask questions and get comprehensive answers about the seminar topics. The possibility of an international experience exchange was highly appreciated by the clinicians and scientists from universities of both countries – Romania and Ukraine participating in the implementation of this cross-border project.

The following topics were presented during the training sessions:

  • «Family doctor – a central figure in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of metabolic syndrome and diabetes»– Doctor of Medicine, Professor Volodymyr Botsyurko;
  • «Biochemical basis of obesity and diabetes»– Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Volodymyr Lushchak;
  • «Overweight, obesity, diabetes mellitus, and risks of COVID-19»– Junior Researcher (PNU), Resident Physician, MMed Ivan Tverdokhlib;
  • «Alimentary obesity as a voluntary choice to live with a disease»– D. of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Tamara Vatseba;
  • «Dietary aspects of weight regulation and prevention of diabetes mellitus»– D. of Medical Sciences, practicing nutritionist Oksana Skytalinska;
  • «The role of fructose in the obesity and diabetes epidemy»– Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Halyna Semchyshyn;
  • «The Art of Communication with Patients»– Doctor of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Roksolana Nesterak.

Also, health providers had the opportunity to test the equipment that was purchased within the grant program for conducting on-site screening measurements.

The participants of the event received very interesting and useful up-to-date information. After completion of the training, the participants of offline sessions shared their impressions about the event and received the certificates and additional materials.
