On the 16th of June, 2020 Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University has started the implementation of the project “Personalized prevention tools in obesity and diabetes – a joint Romanian-Ukrainian program of health education (PrePOD)”, no. 2SOFT/4.1/56, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund through the Romania-Ukraine Joint Operational Program 2014-2020, Priority 4.1, “Support for the development of health services and access to health”.
The implementation period of the project is 18 months and the partner within the project is the “Ștefan cel Mare” University from Suceava, Romania.
The total budget of the project is 329 200 euros/11 328 263 UAH, 296 280 euros/10 195 437 UAH (90%) of contribution is made by the Joint Operational Program Romania-Ukraine 2014 – 2020 and 32 920 euros/1 132 826 UAH (10%) of contribution is made by 2 partners, “Ștefan cel Mare” University (Suceava, Romania) and Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University (Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine).
The main objective of the project is to raise public and medical staff awareness of risk factors associated with overweight, obesity, and diabetes through on-site screening, nutrition counseling and education, and personalized health feedback.
The specific objectives of the project are:
- counseling of people to determine the risks of overweight, obesity, or diabetes development.
- evaluating the current medical practices of family physicians and training them in adopting approaches to the nutrition of obese and diabetic patients
- intensifying cross-border cooperation between health professionals in Romania and Ukraine, with the purpose of: i) analyzing the current situation regarding the rate of obesity and type 2 diabetes; ii) identifying common solutions for the prevention and reduction of these diseases; and iii) involving faculty, doctors and students in exchanges of experience, training and research activities related to the proposed activities.
