In October 2021, several public campaigns were conducted in the village of Piylo, Kalush district, which was the final stage in the work on the main project activity “Screening visits and public campaigns in the communities”.
Activity 3.5 is one of the largest project activities and involved not only researchers staff but also student volunteers. Also, within the framework of this activity, most of the equipment and consumables purchased during the project were attracted. The volunteer students participating in these campaigns received previous training from senior project members through Activity 3.4 and received ongoing supervision throughout their involvement in project activities.
Recall that screening visits and public campaigns were conducted for six months in the localities of Ivano-Frankivsk region: Burshtyn, Tysmenychany Stetseva and Piylo. Adults and children screened with the help of the mobile clinic “Health on the Wheels”.
Evaluated individuals within few minutes received the processed and interpreted report on their state of the health. After that they were be given personalized feedback on their current health and suggested preventive measures to avoid / reduce the risk of obesity and diabetes. Information leaflets containing advice on healthy eating and exercise have been offered to all persons. People with previously undiagnosed illnesses were referred to their family doctors.
Screeened persons were divided into two target categories. The risk of overweight / obesity / diabetes was determined in the first target group. Among the 506 people surveyed in this group, 187 people (including 71 children) had a high risk of developing the above diseases.
The second target group included people who were examined for pre-diabetes or previously undiagnosed diabetes. Among the 400 surveyed, 54 found the above diseases.
